A layout that helps you make a decision

Start with your usable desktop dimensions. Add the equipment you already own, then try the upgrade you are considering. A narrow desk may fit two screens but leave little room for a laptop or speakers. Moving the laptop, changing screen orientation or choosing a smaller accessory can resolve that before you spend.

How are monitor dimensions calculated?

For diagonal D inches and aspect ratio A:B, panel width is D × 2.54 × A ÷ √(A² + B²), and panel height uses B instead of A. In portrait orientation those panel dimensions swap. The planner adds an estimated 2 cm total bezel allowance to the horizontal dimension and uses a 22 cm depth envelope. These are editable estimates, not model-specific measurements. Curved displays, stand shapes and tilt can change the required space.

What do the fit checks mean?

“Outside desk” means an item’s rectangular envelope crosses an edge. “Overlap” means two envelopes intersect; your actual hardware may occupy less space than its envelope. The occupied area is the union of all rectangles clipped to the desk, so overlaps are not counted twice. Free surface is the remaining area; it is not a measure of comfort, reach or usable writing space.

Does this check ergonomics, monitor arms or electrical compatibility?

This is a physical layout planner. It does not certify ergonomics, desk strength, monitor-arm clamps, VESA mounting, cable routing, screen visibility or electrical compatibility. Verify weight limits, mounting details and connection support separately. Try the layout with cardboard templates and your actual seating position before ordering.

Can I save, share or use my plan on another device?

Save on this device keeps one plan in this browser until replaced or browser data is cleared. Export plan downloads a reusable JSON file; Import plan opens it on another device. Copy layout link includes the plan in the URL fragment—anyone with that link can read the layout, including item names. Download PNG creates a scaled image with your measurements. Print / PDF uses your browser’s print dialog.

How big a desk do I need for two 27-inch monitors?

At 16:9, two 27-inch panels have a combined panel width of about 119.5 cm. This planner’s bezel allowance brings the estimated combined width to about 123.5 cm before a gap or edge clearance. That makes a 120 cm desk tight in a flat side-by-side arrangement. Try a wider desk in the planner and verify your actual monitor dimensions, depth, stands and required accessories.

Privacy and calculation limits

The planner processes layout data in your browser. It does not upload your plan to a FitOnear tool server. Saving is optional. Shared links disclose the layout to anyone you give them to. The surrounding website may load its usual analytics and third-party services. Calculations use rectangular top-down envelopes and are rounded for display.

Your layout is one part of the decision

A layout that fits still needs compatible connections, enough power and suitable mounting. Before ordering, complete the free compatibility record with your exact hardware and evidence.

Then use the home-office setup guide to review the whole workspace, or compare research-based equipment picks. Keep your measured plan alongside the manufacturer dimensions.
